MEET in the News!

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I know it’s nowhere near the first time there’s been an article written about MEET, but it’s the first one that’s been written (that I’m aware of) while I’m here! There’s something special about that. :)

How to Install MIT Certificates in Chrome (Windows only)

Monday, June 7th, 2010

My awesome little TJ just clued me in on how to get MIT certificates to work in Chrome. Finally, I will be a one-browser woman again! You have to install the certs in IE, which requires additional software, but then they’ll work in Chrome.

For Windows 7/Vista:

  1. Open IE
  2. Go here: http://ist.mit.edu/services/software/windows/vista/certificate-installer
  3. Install the Certificate Installer Tool
  4. Restart your computer
  5. Open IE, go here: http://ist.mit.edu/services/certificates
  6. Install certificates as usual
  7. Open Chrome
  8. Rejoice!

For XP or earlier:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 7 (j/k: just install certs in Internet Explorer as usual, and they’ll work in Chrome)

Awesome Design Find of the Week: Starbucks Oatmeal

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Step 1: Order some of Starbucks’ “perfect oatmeal” and some coffee

Step 2: Place the oatmeal on top of the coffee

Step 3: Marvel at the perfect fit and how easy it now is to carry

I’m Googleable!

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

OMGOMGOMG, I’ve just been informed that when you search “armadillo tattoo” in Google images my design is on the first page!!!

For some reason the sketches rank higher than the design that shows up, but that is a-ok with me!

This is definitely not the final design, btw. I’ll be posting some new developments soon. :)

Video Project: BREAK(fast)

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Just finished a video project for my visual arts class. My first attempt at taking moving pictures – it turned out way better than I thought it would.

NOTE: It will be totally pointless for you to watch this without turning up your speakers. :)

foof: Best Customer Service I’ve Seen in a Long Time

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I just want to give some MAD props to the foofshop for the customer service they’ve shown me recently. I’d been shopping around for some kind of case for the new Mac I’m buying soon, and I came across foofbag.com. Their products are basically exactly what I was looking for, and oh-so-pretty as well! Unfortunately, their website only listed a single type of fabric available for the laptop I’m getting. (The bags are all super-custom fit to the size of the laptop model) I didn’t like the pattern, so I emailed them asking if they had any others available.

They emailed me back 3 hours later saying they use to have other styles but they weren’t big sellers and asking which patterns I was interested in. I emailed back giving my preferences, and they again emailed me back within 4 hours – saying they would do a run of bags in the size/pattern I wanted!!!

Well, needless to say I was incredibly impressed with this response from them. This morning I got another email saying the bags were ready and I could order them through the website. The entire process from my first email inquiring about their stock to them having my request ready to ship took 8 days. Fantastic!

The JPEG Compression Algorithm

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I have to give a presentation on a technical topic to a bunch of high schoolers for my thesis class, and I chose the JPEG compression algorithm. Naturally, I knew absolutely nothing about said algorithm when I chose it – and it’s absolutely FASCINATING. I thought I’d put up my slides/explanations here so you too can appreciate the genius that is JPEG.
